The audience roars as another point is scored and you hear claps coming from all over, ringing in your ears. On one side of the net, the students jeer at the referee as the point gets handed to the teachers, who cheer in excitement. The large gymnasium is filled with anticipation.
The students show varying emotions: Some clasp their hands over their mouths with shock, some clap, and many start yelling insults or praise.
After the teacher’s victory, students were left downcast but fulfilled from attending such a riveting event.
Fiona Li, a junior who was in the audience watching the game, gave her opinions.
“I came because I knew my physics teacher was coming,” Li said, “Mr. Lin, and I wanted to see him play, and take videos.”
She expected the teachers to win the game, as she felt they had the advantage; her teacher spoke about volleyball frequently.
On the other side of the net, senior player Yehia Etsh introduces himself
“I’m a setter,” Etsh said, “and I’m here because it’s fun to play with my friends on a team.”
He also emphasized this game is important to our school, and that he would enjoy seeing more events like these.
In addition, one of the faculty players, Dr. Cohen, was happy to comment on her experience.
“I think it’s a nice way to show that teachers aren’t just these scary figures in the front of the room.”
She added onto this, saying how it brings the school community cooperativity.
“I think it’s a nice way to have interactions between the different populations that make up the school and show that, you know, we can have fun together.”
