Kung Fu Tea is a bubble tea drink/restaurant chain that recently opened in our school community. It is also the closest bubble tea restaurant to our school. Upon walking into the shop, you are hit with the aroma of fresh food. You could smell the fries being made and the chicken being cooked from the second you walked in. You could even hear the whir from the tea shaker and blending machines working behind the counter while placing your order.
As many students know, the area surrounding the school has multiple bubble tea shops, all of which are a bit on the pricey side. This is one of the factors that sets Kung Fu Tea apart from the others. When looking at the menu the first thing that stood out was the significant amount of both food and drink choices.
Customers have the choice of a Flurry, Milk Tea, Tea, Shakes, etc. With the drinks, you can add on Tapiocca (bubbles or boba) for an additional 0.75 even with the option of popping boba. I ordered the fruity flurry with strawberry boba. My taste buds were overwhelmed with fruity strawberry flavor as soon as I sipped my drink. It was essentially a slush and was quite refreshing after I had walked in the heat from school to the store. Though I had ordered it with less sugar, I noticed that the taste was really sweet, so keep that in mind when placing your order. We also ordered the Strawberry Lemon Green Tea with regular Tapioca which was incredibly delicious. It tasted like fresh strawberry-flavored iced tea and the boba gave the drink an added punch.
The great thing about Kung Fu Tea is that not only are the drinks good, the food is too. Even in one bite, you could feel your teeth pierce the skin of the fries as you chewed and the salt hit your tongue. The taste is amazing but the crunch was the best part for us. At first, you get the crunch, and then the potato inside bursts in your mouth and you can taste the soft insides.
While we enjoyed the fries, the same couldn’t be said for the chicken. With the chicken sandwiches, you could choose options for topping; lettuce, tomato, pickles, and more. You could even have it plain if you’d like. We didn’t try the chicken sandwich but we can only infer how it could taste because we did have the 5-piece chicken tenders. The chicken tenders have the option of being served with either 3 pieces or 5 pieces. The chicken was extremely moist, the texture wasn’t what we would expect. The chicken was soggy and over-seasoned. Truthfully, it is hard to explain the exact taste. The chicken tasted peppery but didn’t taste like chicken. So we recommend the drinks and the fries but be cautious when ordering the chicken meals.
Another thing to note is the amazing customer service. The staff do not bother you or ask questions while you look at their giant menu, so you don’t feel rushed. When you are ready to place an order they are more than happy to tell you the different options that you can order with your meal or drink. The staff there are fortunately patient and kind, this is a very important thing to me when going into a restaurant so I am happy to report this. If a place has bad customer service, it could deter me from going altogether which is why it’s great that Kung Fu Tea has amazing employees.
