Ruby Bell walked into school one day and her whole life changed. Bell was originally going under the radar in the private high school, she had worked so hard to get into called “Maxton Hall” but that all comes to a halt when James Beaufort enters her life.
Ruby Bell witnessed something that could ruin the reputation of James’ sister, Lydia Beaufort, and the whole Beaufort reputation, causing James to form a strong dislike for her. The Beaufort’s are a very powerful and wealthy family and are known for their Beaufort name, they can not have any scandals, especially about Lydia or all business opportunities and the Beaufort name would go to the ground. How is James going to handle the situation and get Ruby to stay quiet?
The first planned attempt to keep Ruby quiet was to ruin the greetings ball that Ruby was planning and hosting as the head of the decorating committee. This greeting ball happens every year to invite people to join their school next year. If things were to go smoothly at the greetings ball Ruby would be able to get a letter of recommendation from the head director of the school to send to Oxford, her dream college to go to. James hired dancers to interrupt the party and blasted music that was not at all fitting for the greetings ball by paying off the DJ. When the head director sees all of this he immediately calls Ruby and James to his office to discipline them, which leads to him telling Ruby he will not write her a letter of recommendation, and he was kicking James off the lacrosse team. Ruby then pleaded and managed to make a deal that if James and Ruby worked together to make an amazing Garden ball with no pranks happening then the head master would write her a letter of recommendation and allow James back on the lacrosse team.
The plot of the series goes on to them trying to be cordial but failing and always arguing. After she apologized for a fight they had, they slowly were able to be cordial and James actually decided to help Ruby with the poster by taking her to the Victorian Dress archives. That one moment showed how they were starting to really get along and how James was falling in love with her. They both were falling in love with each other and the feelings were mutual.
They were happy and in love for a few episodes until the conflict of the series comes in, James`s Father, Mortimer Beaufort. He has always been harsh on both Lydia and James and is very overprotective of the Beaufort company. He tells James not to see Ruby anymore or he will threaten Ruby and her family. He feels she is a distraction and not good enough for James since she is not rich.
This conflict flips the series upside down and makes you be on the edge of your seat. Many more events happen that you need to watch that will lead to a happy ending to the series for Ruby and James, but a major cliffhanger makes you wonder what will happen in season two. This was a very well written book trilogy that is now turned into a series. It was funny, heart wrenching, romantic and all of the emotions you could think of. You should definitely tune into prime video and watch it!
