Love at first bread. That’s the only way to explain the experience you have with Canaan. The moment you walk in, the smell of warm, freshly baked bread grabs your attention. It’s impossible not to follow your nose to the cash register. Canaan opened about four years ago and, honestly, has flown under the radar for way too long. They serve everything, breakfast sandwiches, cold cuts, and dreamy desserts, all made with serious care and flavor. This is how my experience went
Dirty Matcha Latte – 7/10

This one is definitely for the matcha lovers (including me). The drink was hot, rich, and had a robust earthy flavor. It had a bold, umami taste with a little bit of bitterness, like a strong green tea, but creamier. You could tell it was made properly because the matcha was whisked until smooth and frothy. There was a subtle hint of sweetness (probably from honey), but overall it leaned more bitter than sweet which was one of my favorite parts. It’s not your basic matcha latte, it’s more intense, in a good way. If you’re into bold flavors and want something that warms you up and wakes you up, this one’s worth trying.
Egg and cheese ham sandwich – 10/10

Now this was the star of the show. The sandwich came out hot, and the smell alone was mouthwatering. I almost didn’t take pictures! The bread was toasted just right, soft on the inside, a little crispy on the edges, and it tasted like it was homemade. The mix of mozzarella and cheddar cheese was so fantastical, melty, gooey, and tasty. But the best part? That crispy, pan-fried ham. It added the perfect salty bite and gave the sandwich this rich, savory taste that made it feel more like a full breakfast meal than just a snack. The honey mustard tied it all together with a little tangy kick. I would eat this anytime of day. No notes. Just perfect!
Lavender Lemonade – 4/10

This drink looked divine, bright, pastel purple with a classy aesthetic that felt straight off Pinterest. At first sip, I was like “okay, this is gonna be good,” because it hits you with a strong lemony tang. But then the sweetness quickly overpowered… and not in a good way. It was extremely sweet, almost like candy syrup. The lavender taste was very strong, which I loved the highlight of the drink. I wish there were more. If you’re into citrus flavors and don’t mind super sweet drinks, you might like it. But for me, I couldn’t finish it. It was very aesthetic but not something I’d get again.
Blueberry Muffin – 6/10

Okay, this one was kind of a letdown. On the outside, it looked really good with the brown sugar crumb topping and golden color. The inside had a nice vanilla flavor and a soft, tender crumb, but tasted a little dry. I kept hoping to get a juicy blueberry bite, but there just weren’t enough of them. When I did find a blueberry, it tasted sweet but small, but overall the muffin needed more. Maybe if they added extra berries or a bit of lemon zest to brighten it up, it would’ve been better. It wasn’t terrible, just kind of forgettable.
Mini Sponge Cheesecake – 9/10
This dessert is one of my favorites and never disappoints. You would have expected it to be like your regular cheesecake, but it is totally different, in a delectable way! It is super light and fluffy, kind of like a chiffon or sponge cake, but still has that slight tangy cream cheese flavor. What made it stand out was the texture. It was just sweet enough to feel like a treat, but not so sugary that it overwhelmed your taste buds. It’s the kind of dessert you could take on the go and still feel like you had something special. Definitely worth trying if you’re into desserts that are more airy than dense.
Canaan isn’t just a bakery, it’s a hidden gem that deserves to be everyone’s favorite spot. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick bite or a sweet treat, you’ll walk out wondering why you didn’t discover it sooner. So, next time you’re wandering around hungry or just need a pick-me-up that doesn’t come in a plastic wrapper, give Canaan a try. Trust me—one bite and you’ll understand exactly what I mean when I say it’s love at first bread.
