Global Citizens is a nonprofit app that is fighting against poverty, disease, and inequity around the world by offering rewards for helping change the world through petitions, quizzes, articles, and many more features that you can read about and take action on issues within our society. On the Global Citizens app, you can earn points to enter events hosted by them or events that they sponsored such as “The Global Citizens Festival”, “Mariah Carey – Merry Christmas One and All” and many more. With the hard work of this app and its users, their mission is to end poverty worldwide by 2030.
“The raffles definitely spread a lot of awareness about Global Citizens, and they definitely made me interested in doing all of the incentives that they had.” Junior Tony Itzhaky Shaer stated. “They also have other things. Through the raffle you can be entered into concerts, go to museums, and get free merchandise.”
As many people are not aware of this project, Hugh Evans, the CEO of ‘Global Citizens’, may need to provide different ways to get more teenagers involved with this project.
“I think if there was more of an incentive.” Senior My Anh Phan quoted. “Teenagers nowadays really just want something in exchange, so they could definitely get more teenagers involved by providing more incentives.”
Many people have heard about Global Citizens through friends like Phan, who stated “Oh my god that sounds so fun, we should go!”
“Yes, I have actually encouraged people to participate, to create accounts, to go to the festival, and the more the merrier,” Shaer said. “The more people that can help, the better the world can be.”
Global Citizens is beneficial, due to its efforts to get teenagers involved due to its efforts to get teenagers involved just like Shaer and Phan stated. Other students at Francis Lewis High School should get engaged with this project that Global Citizens isis working on because, with our help, we can take small stepss toward the app’s mission of the app’s mission of ending extreme poverty by 2030.
We had attempted to earn tickets to a Mariah Carey concert through the app and we had to sign petitions, complete quizzes, and learn more about situations happening in the world. However, iin the end, we weren’t able to win tickets, but it did make us eager to try again for the next concert highlighting how Global Citizens motivates people, especially the youth, to learn more about things going on around the world.
If you are lucky enough to win a raffle, you receive 2 tickets so you can invite another person, and spread information about Global Citizens to more people. The more people we spread this information to, the more people who can get involved and support the cause.
When you go to a concert, you’re enchanted by performances from popular artists and singers, and iin between sets, they talk about their cause and how you can help.
“During each performance they would have a speaker talk about certain organizations, and certain petitions,” Shaer said. “They had around ten to 20 minutes in between the sets, so they really went into detail. And they also had celebrities come, so it kind of encouraged others to actually listen to what they’re saying.”
Poverty could even be something that you or someone you know could be struggling with. If you want to help, participating in Global Citizens events could be your way of helping, even if it is not much, it is a start.
“Well, I know from personal experience that I once had to make a video, supporting a certain cause, and make certain messages to people who need help. And there’s also the petitions” Shaer stated, “So all of those things can kind of make and brighten their possibilities and opportunities because they are getting awareness and they’re also getting nice comments from people. It could kind of lift up their spirits.”
