Civics is something most students hear about, but not something many fully understand or feel connected to. As an AP U.S. Government student and a presenter during Civics Week, I wanted to take a closer look at why so many students at Francis Lewis seem disengaged from civics education.
In this podcast, I explore the current state of civics at Francis Lewis by sharing my own experiences, student polling data, and interviews with classmates and teachers. From student apathy to the role of social media and the growing politicization of civics education, this episode examines why learning about government often feels inaccessible or uncomfortable in school settings.
By highlighting student voices and real classroom experiences, this podcast asks an important question: if civics is essential to democracy, why doesn’t it feel that way to so many students, and how can schools do better?
