Brandon Yam, Co-National News Editor ('19-'20)

Brandon Yam is the National News Editor of FLHSNews.

A junior at Francis Lewis High School, Yam is part of one of two sets of triplets in his family who grew up in Oakland Gardens, Queens. Since 2018, he has worked for his school newspaper and written anecdotal ledes to bring together two worlds of journalism and creative writing. At school he reads YA fiction and writes articles in the English department as the national news editor of FLHSNews, the editor in chief of Humans of Francis Lewis Magazine and the vice president of the Creative Writing Club. Outside of school he has interned for Assemblymembers Yuh-Line Niou of District 65 and Ron Kim of District 40, the news site City Limits and the teen fact-checking network at Poynter's MediaWise. Yam has also won honors for his work, including Best Feature at the 16th Annual NYC High School Journalism Conference at Baruch College and Honorable Mention in The New York Times' Second Annual 'Show Us Your Generation' Photo Contest for Teenagers. Now he can be found crying over deadlines and interning for the podcast Miseducation, with plans to pursue a career in journalism and publishing.
